One of the things we love about the Eastern Bay Community Foundation is the people behind it.
That's why we're delighted to celebrate one of our trustees, Diane Turner, who recently received her insignia as a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit.
Many people in the Eastern Bay will know Diane from her time as Chief Executive of the Whakatāne District Council. Others may know her through her work supporting older New Zealanders as Director of the Office for Seniors, or through the many governance and community roles she has held over the years.

Wherever her career has taken her, one thing has remained consistent: a commitment to people and community.
Over the last two decades, Diane has contributed to local government, earthquake recovery, Māori development, senior advocacy and community leadership. The honour recognises her services to governance, seniors and Māori, but those who know Diane will tell you that her contribution extends far beyond any job title.
After spending several years commuting for work and living outside the region, Diane has returned home to Whakatāne and joined the Eastern Bay Community Foundation Board. We're incredibly fortunate to benefit from her experience, thoughtful leadership and genuine passion for helping communities thrive.
The Foundation's work is built on the idea that strong communities don't happen by accident. They are shaped by people who care enough to get involved, contribute their skills and think about the future.
